THE EFFECT OF DROUGHT ON PLUMBING

Blocked or broken drains

Here in Australia, blocked drains are a common occurrence. No matter who you are or what you do, everyone has encountered them at some point. But do you know what to do when you come across a blocked drain?

Plunger
Got a solid blockage? A plunger is as good for a drain blockage as it is for a toilet blockage. Just be sure to cover any other adjoining drains to create a seal and use the pressure to move the blockage.

Boiling Water
Mum’s go to, boiling water, will in most cases move greasy build-ups. Remember to use hot tap water (not boiling) on PVC pipes to avoid issues with expansion and loosening joints. Brilliant Bicarbonate White vinegar and bicarbonate soda are a wonderful combination of fizz and drain blockage removal power. Pour the bicarb into your drain and then follow it with vinegar, cover and let the chemical reaction do the work for you. Finish the process by flushing your drain with hot water.

Caustic Cleaner
Blockage not moving on? Time to level up with Caustic Soda. You can find it under a variety of names at Coles, Woolies, Aldi and even IGA. No Matter which brand name you choose to use, follow the instructions on the container and use safety equipment like gloves and glasses before you attempt to move the blockage.

Still unable to move that pesky blockage? Time to call your plumber. We can use tools like employing pressurised water, using a Snake, Eel or CCTV to chip away or find out what’s caused it, or in more severe blockages even excavation.
